HISTORY
Glenn and Bertha Keithly established Keithly Ranches on the
shores of Lake County, California’s beautiful Clear Lake a few miles north of
Kelseyville in the early 1900s. They
later acquired rangeland West and Southwest of Lakeport.
Over the years, the ranch produced pears, sheep, turkeys,
cattle, walnuts, hay, and even had a small dairy.
Glenn and Bertha’s son, Richard, and his wife, Loris,
were the second generation to work the ranch.
Richard and Loris’ sons, Allen and Michael, have moved on
to different careers. Most of the
land has been rented to local cattlemen.
When Richard Keithly passed in 2001, his son, Mike, took
over managing the ranch. Mike and
his wife, Dena (who grew up on a local egg ranch), have two children, Glenn and
Jennifer. Jennifer absolutely loves
all types of critters. She was an
active member in 4-H and FFA. Throughout
her years in 4-H, she had three grand champions and a reserve grand champion
market lamb at our local fair. She
has now graduated from California State University, Chico, with a Bachelor of
Science in Animal Science and is in the Masters Program at Montana State
University in Bozeman, MT.
Because of Jennifer’s enthusiasm for raising livestock,
Jennifer, together with Dena (her mom) and Mike (her dad), have put Keithly
Ranches back in the livestock business once again.
Mike and Dena are the third generation on their ranch and
Jennifer is the fourth generation. It
is exciting to re-establish our roots and hopefully we can continue to maintain
the ranch for future generations.
Our web page has been produced by Jennifer’s brother, Glenn. Thank goodness someone around here is computer literate! Thanks, Glenn!
